For years, podcasts were a purely audio format, but the rise of YouTube and Spotify Video has multiplied their reach and monetization opportunities. This four-week plan guides you from conception to publishing your first episode with potential revenue in mind.
Week 1 – Strategy and branding
Define a topic, audience, and unique angle. Research keywords on YouTube Search, review similar podcasts in your niche, and identify the gaps (e.g., interviews focused on real-life cases rather than general discussions). Choose a name and palette; design a simple logo that works as a watermark.
Week 2 – Technical setup and workflow
Buy or rent the essentials: two 4K mirrorless cameras, a cheap HDMI mixer (ATEM Mini), dynamic microphones, RGB LED lights. Set up OBS as a redundant recorder. Create project folders "AA_Pre-SFX," "BB_Raw," and "CC_Final" to keep things organized.
Week 3 – Pilot Recording
Write a 30-second outline with a hook, three thematic blocks, and a final CTA. Set up clap sync to facilitate multi-camera shooting. Also record B-roll (reactions, close-ups of hands) to intercut during editing and maintain visual rhythm.
Week 4 – Post, distribution and initial monetization
Edit in DaVinci Resolve; first multicam sync, then cuts, lower-thirds, and a basic LUT. Export 16:9 in 4K, create an MP3 audio version, and three vertical clips (<60 s) of the best moments. Upload to YouTube, Spotify for Podcasters, and TikTok. Activate "Super Thanks" and include affiliate links in the description. Create a Typeform for future sponsorships.
Recurring tasks
➜ Publish consistently (minimum biweekly)
➜ Analyze retention in YouTube Studio to adjust duration
➜ Create a community: Discord or Telegram group for feedback
With discipline, your video podcast won't just garner views; it'll become an asset that generates revenue through ads, sponsorships, and your own products.
