The Ultimate Guide to a Glitch-Free Livestream

A memorable livestream isn't just about the presenter; technical stability is everything. This practical guide, based on real hybrid events, covers every checkpoint.

Redundant connectivity

• Dedicated line + 4G/5G failover with bonding (Speedify/BirdDog).
• Constant speed test: minimum 10 Mbps sustained upload per 1080p stream.

Encoder and contingency scenes

Configure your software (vMix/OBS) with an “SOS scene”: a fixed sign and background music ready for immediate output if the source goes down.

Audio first

Use an analog mix and send LR to the interface. Monitor with closed-back headphones; a couple of frames of delay is acceptable, but the audio delay is not.

Clear roles

Technical director, camera operator, chat moderator. In small teams, at least two people to avoid relying on a lone hero.

T-3 day checklist

– Latency test at the same time as the event.
– Check music licenses.
– Check token renewal (YouTube API expires).
– Send a private link to the client for dress rehearsal.

Post-event

Record locally (ProRes or DNxHD) for future editions. Export metrics: peak viewership, average viewing time, and retention by country.

With this list, you'll cover 90% of common pitfalls, and your audience will remember the content, not the technical issues.
